Area of Diabetes Mellitus | Area of Asthma

Our faculty members who are specialists in diabetes mellitus have formed a "Diabetes Nurses Team" (DNT) for over 10 years. Our team’s responsibilities are to advance knowledge in this field through research and provide nursing and academic services to communities. During the beginning phase, our DNT plan to strengthen our existing projects to be more intensive and renowned. The projects include:

    1.  Diabetic education innovation: The provision of diabetic education is a significant vehicle to achieve the goals of diabetic care. To produce innovations for such education is worth the effort. Currently, there are 2 innovative teaching media that we are proud to introduce:

  1. Teaching Package of Nursing Care for DM Children -- A teaching package for clinical nurse instructors to use with nurse students.
  2. Body Link Model  --  A model demonstrating the mechanism of glucose metabolism.
The package and model have been used in our school, and evaluation of its use by both instructors and students is in a high level of satisfaction.
   2.  Diabetic education for at-risk children and teachers: Diabetic day camps have been arranged to at-risk school-age children and their teachers. Fun activities integrated with diabetic knowledge and needed skills for self-care are the highlights of our camps.

During the beginning phase, the Center will launch a project entitled ‘School-Based Asthma Education Program for Teachers’. Based on our research on quality of life in school for children with asthma, and the development of a teacher’s manual for care in children with asthma, this school-based asthma education program is being developed and will be launched in the near future for teachers in schools with the purposes of providing knowledge about asthma and skills of primary help for children with asthma attack.
