WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development
As a highly-recognized, academically excellent institution of nursing and midwifery in Thailand, the Faculty of Nursing (Siriraj), Mahidol University has been designated as the "WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development" since 1996. The main purpose of the centre is to promote the improvement of education, practice, and research in nursing and midwifery.
The mission of this WHO Collaborating Centre is to enhance capabilities and contribution of nurses and midwives to providing effective and comprehensive health services for individuals, families and communities.
The WHO/SEARO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development at Mahidol University operates within the WHO Guidelines and carry out following functions:
1. To Serve as a training center in nursing specialties and midwifery
2. To strengthen research capacity in nursing and midwifery
3. To promote and support a partnership collaboration in nursing and midwifery education, research, and practice
There are three main types of activities including 1) Training and education, 2) Information dissemination, and 3) Research.
The Outcomes of the Project based on WHO was:
1. Countries enabled to improve patient safety and quality of services, and patient empowerment within the context of universal health coverage
2. Health workforce strategies oriented towards universal health coverage implemented in countries
The Outcomes of the Project from Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University (FoN, MU)
1. FoN, MU will be well recognized in the national and International Level
2. Nurses in Thailand and other countries in WHO, SEARO was developed the capacity in nursing and midwifery education, research, and practice
3. Promotion of the Collaboration between Thailand and other countries in WHO, SEARO, and etc
It is a cooperation for sustainable development according to the Sustainable Development Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) with the continuing collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, and the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers.
