Project title: The MU-JHU NCDs Research Collaborative Center
Indicator: 3.4 By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being
Background and significance: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are chronic conditions causing the greatest burden of disease in the global population. NCDs accounted for 70% of the premature death particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Therefore, the preparation of nurses to reduce the burden of NCDs and improve outcomes of care through research and building nursing capacity is crucial. The joint unit program among the Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University, and Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is established. The center will be the NCDs training hubs serving as a training center for improving nurse NCDs care in order to strengthen nurse capacities for nurses within WHO SEARO region. Moreover, this collaborative center will initiate the NCDs multi-site research collaboration through the six-building block model in order to improve the outcome of NCDs care.
Project duration: 2020-2021
Location of activity: Thailand and the country within WHO SEARO.
Collaborating Institutes: Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University, and Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
Objectives: To establish “The MU-JHU NCDs Research Collaborative” between the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University and the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing for creating a body of knowledge through the NCDs training hubs to increase capacity of nurses in NCDs care and the collaborate in a multidisciplinary and multi-site research to improve NCD outcomes.
Activities: The activities under the MU-JHU research collaborative center include: 1) Establishing a training hub for NCDs care through a short course and certificate training program, the training center for NCDs care is designed to increase the capacity of researchers and nurse practitioners; and 2) Conducting a multi-site research collaboration.
Participants: National and international healthcare providers including academic, researcher and practitioner.
Number of participants:
1. Three short courses training program for NCDs management: 50 participants/each course.
2. Six webinar conference: 200 participants/each event.
Indicators of project: The indicators consist of: 1) three short courses training program for NCDs management; 2) six webinar conference.
