Mission
The mission of the Center of Excellence for Women’s Health is to improve health status and quality of care for women through research, training and the development of women-centered care programs and policies.

Goal
To advance our knowledge and understanding of the determinants of health and health care needs among various populations of women.
  • To develop and disseminate culturally competent research methodologies and interventions aimed at improving the health status and increasing quality of care for women
  • To conduct policy-oriented research aimed at improving the health status of women by making the health system more aware of and responsive to women's health needs
  • To be a resource center for promoting excellence in practice, research, and health policy  by disseminating information on women's health research issues and outcomes to community of practices (COPs), as well as to national policy makers and the media

Activities

The focus of the Center includes women's health research, education, academic service and clinical/ community service.
Research activities
Our Center of Excellence in Women's Health consists of 3 key research areas of focus:

1. Quality of Perinatal Care

  • Quality of care in high risk pregnancy and mother
  • Childbirth education and health promotion
  • Violence in pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Perinatal palliative care

2. Quality of Reproductive Health
3. Quality of Care for Vulnerable Group of Women.

Since the gaps in knowledge and clinical care in high risk and vulnerable group of women are urgent, one of our significant research areas is to study the determinants of health and health care needs among vulnerable populations of women and to develop health care system and policies that serve their health care needs.  Currently, we have staff members who conduct both qualitative and quantitative studies in vulnerable group of women such as mothers with HIV infection, incarcerated mothers.

  • To improve quality of care for women, our staff members have been actively involved in both training programs and being consultants for evidence-based practice and quality improvement for health service institutes in our network.
